Therapeutic Recreation Management

Program Information
The philosophy that recreation and leisure experiences are essential to the physical, emotional, psychological, and social development of all individuals is at the core of our therapeutic recreation management program. You will develop a variety of skills that can be implemented in clinical and non-clinical settings, including medical, surgical, and psychiatric hospitals; senior centers; child-life programs; mental health agencies; shelters; vocational training centers; correctional facilities; and long-term care and nursing home settings.
By completing this program, students will have met all educational requirements to be certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
Degree Information
The candidate will be eligible for a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree with a major in Therapeutic Recreation Management.

A. Students entering the program from outside of the Springfield College undergraduate program
1. SMRT Selective (3 credits)
2. COUN Selective (3 credits)
3. Internship Requirement (9 credits)
B. Students entering the program from the Springfield College undergraduate program
Note:
For students entering the program from the Springfield College undergraduate program, it is suggested that SMRT 642 and SMRT 643 be taken duting the student 4th year in the undergraduate program.
