Program Information

15 credits

The minor in creative writing is designed for those students who wish to express themselves in writing.  Students who pursue this course of study will have the opportunity to write in a variety of forms and genres, including poetry, fiction, drama, and creative non-fiction.  Students will draft, workshop, and revise a range of writing projects, all of which will help them to see the world in new ways and help others to do so, too.

Required Courses (6 credits):

• ENGL 226 - Creative Writing Credits: 3

• and one of the following:

• ENGL 306 - Reading and Writing Poetry Credits: 3
• ENGL 307 - Writing and Reading Fiction Credits: 3
• ENGL 308 - Writing and Reading Creative Non-Fiction Credits: 3

Choose three courses from the following (9 credits):

• ENGL 235 - English Internship Credits: 1-6
• ENGL 301 - Advanced Composition Credits: 3
• ENGL 305 - Writing for the Professions Credits: 3

  • genre course (3 credits - e.g. American Nature Writers, American Short Story, Modern American Poetry, Creative Non-Fiction, American Drama, Modern American Novel)

  No more than 3 credits of internship(s) may count toward the creative writing minor.

   

   

Guidelines for the minor:

• Only one course can be used to satisfy both a major and minor requirement
• Only one course can be used to satisfy two minor programs’ requirements
• A minimum GPA of 2.5 for courses in the minor is required for graduation
• At least three of the five courses must be taken at SC
