CMDS 456 - Language Acquisition and Development This course provides an overview of the normal language acquisition and development process throughout the life span, with particular emphasis on birth through school age. The interrelationships among linguistic, neurophysical, cognitive, social, and cultural factors as they affect language acquisition are discussed. The student becomes familiar with various theories of language acquisition, the rule systems of the English language, stages of language development, and techniques for collecting and analyzing a language sample.
