Program Description
The Certificate in Health Education for Schools and Communities is delivered in a 100% online, asynchronous format, and can be finished in as few as 2-3 semesters, or as many as 6 semesters, depending on student desire for completion. The certificate consists of a mix of required and elective courses consisting of 16 credit hours. Courses in this program provide graduate students and working professionals the skills and training to implement health education and social and emotional education based on state performance indicators and the National Health Education Standards. Students obtain a wide range of skills, including how to examine and evaluate emerging research, create appropriate educational curricula, establish inclusive learning environments for all students, foster educational partnerships with families and communities, and respond to achievement gaps caused by institutional racism and societal inequities.
