Program Description
To receive a minor in Spanish, students must complete 15 credit hours of coursework through a combination of on-campus courses and courses abroad through an approved study abroad program.
Requirements:

Successful completion of two 200-level Spanish courses.

An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher (requirement for any student to study abroad, regardless of location);

A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in Spanish courses.

Placement at intermediate level or higher in placement exams administered at the host university.

I. Minor Requirements (15 credits)
Study abroad for the Spanish minor requires one full semester at the host institution. Students must enroll in at least 12 credit hours while studying abroad to maintain full-time status. Two courses (6 credits) satisfy course requirements for the Spanish minor. An additional, 9 credit hours of coursework while studying abroad for the Spanish minor satisfies the Study Abroad Themed Exploration. Students must work with their major and minor advisors to avoid any course overlap.
Students may choose to focus one of the following areas for the Spanish minor:
1. Humanities Track: Grammar, Composition, Conversation, Culture, Arts, Literature, or History.
2. Health Professions Track: Health Care, Physician-Patient Communication, Translation, and Culture

B. Track Selectives (6 credits)
Select 6 credits from the following list:
Students interested in a Language track should take SPAN 211 and SPAN 212 while students interested in a Health Professions track should take SPAN 213 and SPAN 214
C. Study Abroad Coursework (6 Credits)
Students work with the minor advisor to select courses from the host institution. The language of instruction must be Spanish, and the level must be mid- to high-intermediate or advanced. Students may select courses from the following areas: Conversation, Grammar, Composition, Culture, Fine or Performing Arts, Literature, History, medical terminology, or other courses related to health care or their major.
