DANC 207 - Body Politics Through various critical lenses and themes, this course analyzes, interprets, and explores the politics of the body, both the physical presence of the body as well as its theoretical weight, through a dance-based investigative lens. This course is structured in units that facilitate students to critically examine 20th and 21st century choreographers from varying geographical locations through a range of theoretical lenses such as: protest and war, gender politics, race and ethnicity, alterity and difference. Students need not consider themselves dancers or choreographers in order to benefit from this course, but should be ready to actively engage with moving bodies, including their own. Class consists of lecture, discussion, readings, video viewings, and movement. Credits: 3
