EDUC 655 - The Historical Context of Education in the United States This course surveys the history of education in the United States from the colonial period to the present. The primary objective of the course is to study the historical development of institutions of primary, secondary, and postsecondary institutions of education in the context of societal changes and events that have left their mark on U.S. education. The emphasis will be on social, economic, political, and cultural development, with a special focus on mainstream and non-traditional institutional forms, faculty, teachers, students, finance, governance, administration, and the curriculum. Credits: 3
