Substitutions and Waivers

Students may petition to substitute (e.g., swap a course requirement for successful completion of a specified alternate course) or waive (e.g., no longer be required to fulfill a requirement without completion of a specified alternative) individual requirements in their academic program(s).  Students are still obligated to meet any minimum credit requirements in the event a course requirement is waived.

Petitions from undergraduate students to substitute or waive Core Curriculum requirements must be supported by their advisor, the corresponding Department Chair, and the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs to be approved.  All other petitions from students to substitute or waive specific requirements must be supported by their advisor, the corresponding Department Chair, and the corresponding Dean to be approved.  Some departments may restrict courses eligible for a waiver or substitution (ex. those connected to external accreditation requirements.)

Substitutions and waivers will be properly notated on a student’s degree audit.
