Academic Progress - Undergraduate

All matriculated (degree-seeking) undergraduate students are reviewed for academic progress at the conclusion of every semester in which they enrolled.  Academic progress is based on a review of cumulative grade point average (GPA) and cumulative competition ratio.  

• The cumulative GPA calculation is the percentage of cumulative quality points to cumulative GPA hours. See Grading and Grade Point Computation (GPA) policy for additional information.  
• The cumulative completion ratio calculation is the percentage of cumulative earned credits to cumulative attempted credits.  See Repeating a Course policy for additional information on how repeating coursework impacts the completion ratio calculation.  

Note: These are the minimum standards for the College. Academic departments may have higher standards for continuation in their undergraduate programs.  Students are responsible for reviewing program standards and requirements in the official department, school, or institutional documents.

Good Standing

Students who meet the cumulative GPA and cumulative completion ratio for their cumulative attempted credit range will be in Good Standing. 

Academic Warning

First-time, non-transfer students after their initial semester (regardless of cumulative attempted credits) who meet a minimum cumulative GPA of 1.650 and a cumulative completion ratio of 60.00% but fall below either the minimum cumulative GPA or the minimum cumulative completion ratio for their cumulative attempted credit range are placed on Academic Warning. 

Academic Warning is also granted to students first-time, non-transfer students who did not establish a cumulative GPA in their initial semester due to a leave of absence or withdrawal from the institution. 

A student placed on Academic Warning will be considered to be in Good Standing, but they must participate in the College’s Academic Progress Program. Academic Warning will not be recorded on an official transcript.​

Academic Probation

Students who begin the semester in Good Standing that either do not meet the cumulative GPA or cumulative completion ratio for their cumulative attempted credit range are placed on Academic Probation.  Students who are placed on Academic Probation will:

• Only be eligible for financial aid if they are granted Financial Aid Probation through the Office of Financial Aid;
• Be required to participate in the College’s Academic Progress Program;
• Be considered ineligible for participation in intercollegiate athletic teams sponsored by the Athletics Department (per NCAA regulations); and
• Be subject to other restrictions or requirements established by the Academic Affairs division, Student Affairs division, or other campus offices or programs.

Academic Probation is notated on an official transcript. Students who are placed on Academic Probation will maintain this status even if they take a leave of absence or withdraw from the institution. 

Removed from Probation will be notated on an official transcript when the students meet the minimum cumulative GPA and minimum cumulative completion ratio for their cumulative attempted credit range.  

Continued Academic Probation

Students who begin the semester on Academic Probation that do not meet the cumulative GPA or cumulative completion ratio for their cumulative attempted credit range but have a minimum semester GPA of 2.000 and a minimum semester completion ratio of 75.00% are placed on Continued Academic Probation.  Students on Continued Academic Probation are subject to the conditions specified under the Academic Probation status. Continued Academic Probation is notated on an official transcript.  

Academic Dismissal

Students who begin the semester on Academic Probation or Continued Academic Probation that do not meet the cumulative GPA or cumulative completion ratio for their cumulative attempted credit range and do not qualify for Continued Academic Probation will be academically dismissed.  Academic Dismissal is notated on an official transcript.  

A student who has been academically dismissed from the College may appeal the dismissal to the Undergraduate Appeals Committee once. The timeline and requirements for the appeal will be specified in their dismissal notice.  If the Undergraduate Appeals Committee grants the appeal, the student will be allowed to return on Continued Academic Probation. Students must sign their readmission letter, adhere to all conditions specified in their readmission letter, and meet all conditions specified under the Academic Probation status.  The Academic Dismissal notation will be updated to Academic Dismissal/Appealed/Continue on Probation on an official transcript.

Students who do not appeal or have their appeal denied may apply for readmission to the College through the Office of Admissions after a minimum of one year away. While away from the College, students considering readmission are encouraged to complete pre-approved transfer credit (see Transfer credit policy for additional details). Readmitted students will return on Academic Probation and must meet all conditions specified under the Academic Probation status.  Readmitted on Probation is notated on an official transcript.
