YMCA Professional Studies Minor

The minor in YMCA Professional Leadership is an interdisciplinary theoretical and skill-based program that prepares YMCA Career Candidates and other interested students for positions of leadership in the YMCA and other human service organizations. Students who complete this program will be eligible to apply for Senior Director Certification upon completion of one year of post-graduate full-time employment as a YMCA professional.

Required:

Students are required to complete the following sequence of courses, for a total of 20 s.h.

MGTE 215 - Principles of Management Credits: 3 s.h
MGTE 305W - Managerial Supervision Credits: 3 s.h.
MGTE 350 - Marketing for Non-Profit Organizations Credits: 3 s.h
or
SOCI 415W - Proposal Writing and Fundraising; 3 s.h.
SOCI 133W - The YMCA Past, Present, and Future Credits: 3 s.h
SOCI 341 - Group Work Credits: 3 s.h
SOCI 433W - YMCA Management and Continuity Planning Credits: 3 s.h
and

** YMCA-based Internship (200 hours minimum); 2+ s.h.

** Students will register for an internship within their major, fulfilling the requirements set out by each department while completing the experience in a YMCA.

Required:
