Program Description
The certificate in college and university teaching for healthcare and medical professionals is designed for practitioners who have obtained or are near completion of a terminal clinical degree (terminal clinical degree as defined by the profession, for example, DPT for physical therapy, Master’s or OTD for occupational therapy, etc.) and now want to expand their skills and knowledge with a goal of teaching in higher education. Non-US applicants who are applying will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The program is designed for health and medical professionals (e.g., Nurses, Pharmacists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physician Assistants, Physicians, Chiropractors, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Audiologists) who have worked in a clinical setting for at least 2 years. Students in the certificate program take 9 credits of coursework on the organization of higher education, the science of teaching and learning, contemporary issues in clinical teaching, interprofessional health professional education to complete the certificate. The program is designed to be completed in a single academic year.
