Creative Writing Minor

Program Information
15 credits
The minor in creative writing is designed for those students who wish to express themselves in writing. Students who pursue this course of study will have the opportunity to write in a variety of forms and genres, including poetry, fiction, drama, and creative non-fiction. Students will draft, workshop, and revise a range of writing projects, all of which will help them to see the world in new ways and help others to do so, too.

Required Creative Writing Core (9 credits):
Take at least three courses (9 credits) from the following list. Students are encouraged to take all four courses (12 credits). Please note that at least two of these courses (6 credits) must be taken at Springfield College.
Professional Writing Requirement (3-6 credits)
Take at least one of the following courses:
Optional Literature Selective
If students have completed the minimum requirement of 12 credits from the Creative Writing and Professional Writing categories, they have the option to complete the 15-credit minor with one of the following courses (3 credits) in literature.
Guidelines for the minor:
- Only one course can be used to satisfy both a major and minor requirement
- Only one course can be used to satisfy two minor programs’ requirements
- A minimum GPA of 2.5 for courses in the minor is required for graduation
- At least three of the five courses must be taken at SC
