Doctor of Psychology in Counseling Psychology


The Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) program in Counseling Psychology at Springfield College provides students with specialty training with optional concentrations in Athletic Counseling or Couples and Family Counseling. The program provides students the opportunity to enhance their clinical, theoretical, and research skills through coursework and hands-on learning through required practica and a year-long internship. Students complete a minimum of 91 credits in core doctoral courses and may opt for 18-24 additional credits within their selected concentration and/or electives.

Students in the Psy.D. program are guided in learning both the science and practice of psychology, and will graduate as confident professionals who can serve society in reflective practice, scholarship, teaching, and research. Graduates are prepared to apply their well-developed counseling skills in many diverse settings, including the mental health, athletic, forensic, educational, business, and research fields.

Transfer Credit Policy - Doctor of Psychology Program

Students may be eligible to transfer up to forty-two (42) semester hours of graduate credit, for which appropriate letter grades (“A”, “A-“, “B+”, “B”, or “B-“) have been given, may be approved for transfer into the PsyD program, provided that:

  • The institution for which the work is to be transferred is authorized to grant graduate degrees by a regionally accredited institution of higher education. (Regional accrediting bodies are NEASC, MSACS, NCACS, SACS,and WACS.)
  • The credits to be transferred are represented on an official graduate transcript.
  • The courses is to be transferred are applicable to the PsyD program at Springfield college.
  • Pass/Fail courses are not transferable.
  • The coursework is completed no more than five years prior to admission.

B. Couples and Family Counseling Concentration


 (6 courses required / 18 credits)
