WLPL 240 - Becoming Skilled in Wellness and Movement through Target Games This course is designed to build on students’ exploration in their 100-level Wellness and Physical Literacy course. Students select this course based on their Physical Literacy and Wellness Plan and strive to go in-depth with specific wellness subcategories and one to two movement areas of their choice.
Target games involve the goal of projecting an object closer to a target than the opponent. Some target games require throwing or rolling objects (eg., bowling) while others include striking (eg., golf). Content of the course includes investigation of intellectual and emotional wellness through 3 or more student-selected target games. The instructional model of Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) is implemented in the course to promote intellectual engagement within the movement forms. TGfU is an approach that emphasizes tactical awareness and decision making prior to skill execution. Credits: 1
