WLPL 100 - Exploring Wellness through Movement Wellness is an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a healthy lifestyle (Hettler, 1976). This course introduces students to the seven dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, occupational, social, and environmental. Students progress toward physical literacy through exploring motor competence, perceived motor competence, and tactical knowledge in a range of movement activities. The Wellness concepts integrated throughout the semester align with the defined areas of wellness in the Wellness Passport: Physical Domain, Mental Domain, and Meaning and Purpose Domain. The Wellness and Physical Literacy course sequence is designed using Self-Determination Theory (Deci & Ryan, 1985) as a framework to facilitate intrinsic motivation through autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Through building relationships, developing skills, and making choices, students are prepared to select one dimension of wellness for the 200-level Wellness and Physical Literacy course. Credits: 1
