MMHC 613 - Professional Orientation and Ethical Practice This course orients students to the profession of counseling, including its historical development, standards of practice, and credentialing process. Individuals will explore the nature and development of professional identity. This course provides a foundation for the ethical practice of counseling focusing on such issues as ethical decision-making through an understanding of legal and ethical standards of practice for counselors including self-examination. Issues such as client rights, confidentiality, dual relationships, duty to warn, consent for treatment, and ethical consideration of special populations are reviewed. Licensing, federal and regional laws associated with mental health counseling and addictions will drive specific codes used within this course
