Repeating a Course

Repeating a Course

Students may repeat a course in which they have received an unsatisfactory grade.  To repeat a course, the student must re-register for the course. Students who repeat a course may choose to register for an approved equivalent course at another institution. Undergraduate students may transfer the credit for the equivalent course to their program if they have earned a grade of C- or better.  Graduate students may transfer the credit for the equivalent course to their program if they have earned a grade of B or better.

Both grade entries will appear on the transcript, but only the credit hours and the grade resulting from the repeated course will be used in computing hours and grade points for graduation. This will be true whether the grade for the repeated course is higher or lower than the original grade. The original grade will be removed from the calculation of the GPA but will remain visible on the transcript.  The transfer course will appear as a P for Pass and will not be used in the calculation of the GPA.

Note:  Students may receive aid to repeat a course in which they received a failing grade.  Federal rules only allow federal aid one time for a repeat of a course that previously received a passing grade.
