Deaf Studies Minor

The minor in deaf studies program offers training to students interested in issues that affect those who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing.  The minor provides students with courses related to the communication, audiological, linguistic, cultural, educational, and social needs of people who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing. 

Students learn how to communicate with those who are Deaf/HOH, educational and communication choices that families must make, how hearing is assessed, assistive technology, and specific therapeutic techniques needed to assess and increase speech, language, listening, and speechreading skills.  Emphasis is also placed on understanding Deaf history and culture and preparation for students’ service to humanity in their respective fields and careers..

Requirements: 18 s.h.

Required Courses (18 s.h.):


The following courses constitute the minimum requirements for the Deaf Studies minor.  Substitutions or other courses in related areas of interest are encouraged and may be considered in addition to the minimum requirements.
