ADST 201 - Ethical, Legal and Professional Standards for Addiction Professionals

This course prepares students to identify, analyze and apply ethical standards to the field of Addiction Studies. The course focuses on issues related to ethical decision-making, as well as legal and ethical standards of practice for counselors including self-examination. Issues such as client rights, confidentiality, dual relationships, duty to warn, consent for treatment, and ethical consideration of special populations are reviewed. Licensing considerations, as well as federal, regional, and state laws associated with mental health counseling and addictions, drive specific codes used within this course.
