ENGL 353* - American Romanticism This course focuses on the literary works of key nineteenth century authors in
the American Romantic movement: Irving, Cooper, Poe, Hawthorne, Melville, Emerson,
Thoreau, and Whitman. Romantic themes of individualism, imagination, and intuition
are stressed.
